Florida State

Yes, it deserves it's own page and while I may often post about my beloved alma mater, I feel it necessary to also devote an entire page to share why I fell in love with a little place on the Florida panhandle called Tallahassee.

Let me begin by saying that I understand most people have a special bond to their college. After all it is a once in lifetime experience of being completely free with no responsibilities and the world at your feet. I however tend to reach a little beyond the norm with regards to the sentiment I feel towards Florida State University. For me, it was not only a chance to set out on my own like most college students but also an opportunity to experience a completely new and different culture. Florida State is more of a southern school than anything which tends to surprise many people. No, I did not go to school by the beach. In fact it was a good hour and half drive to the beach, which still in the middle of January is not warm. Starting out I had the same misconceptions of most about everything related to "The South." However, in short time it grew on me and now I sometimes ache for the good southern traits I learned to appreciate in Tallahassee. Until I am able to upload more pictures, here is a quick snapshot of the most well known building on campus.

FSU's campus is unlike any other with it's brick red buildings, palm trees and spanish moss. It is a place that still gets me a little teary eyed everytime I go back.

I am so passionate about my school that when I moved back up to Chicago I decided to join the FSU Alumni Board - Chicago Chapter. We are the Windy City Seminoles and have successfully established a strong network hundreds of miles from Florida. It has become a second family to me with a bond that I hope to last for years to come. As a part of our duties, we organize our football game watching "war parties" in the fall. Which leads me to my sacred religion...FSU Football! I tend to get a lot of opposition to FSU and Bobby Bowden up in the windy city but the more I am challenged the more steadfast I become. FSU football and Bobby Bowden made my college experience what it was. As students - although we came along years after the most recent national championship - we felt a part of something much bigger than ourselves. So I will leave with you a parting shot of the legend himself, Bobby Bowden coaching his last game at the Gator Bowl, January 1, 2010 - Oh and we beat West Virginia!
